We help families and small businesses manage their investments and achieve their financial goals. As discretionary managers we take the burden of making investment decisions off our client’s shoulders. As part of our on-boarding process we spend time getting to know our clients, most often completing a financial plan before beginning investing their portfolio. Once we thoroughly understand the individual client’s goals and risk tolerance we are able to establish a suitable asset allocation. We then formalize this with a written Investment Policy Statement which outlines our understanding of how the portfolios should be invested. Only then do we begin actually investing the accounts.
Our investment committee does research using Value Line, Morningstar, Fidelity, Schwab, Dow Theory, Credit Suisse, Argus and Quodd, employing both top down and bottom up analysis. We seek to find undervalued companies in sectors that we feel have promise and good growth potential. The building blocks of our portfolios are stocks and bonds, supplemented by ETF’s and no-load funds where appropriate. .
Portfolios are rebalanced regularly and reviewed daily by portfolio managers. We facilitate cash requirements and set up income streams for clients who are in retirement. For clients who have current retirement plan accounts that are held away, we offer a complimentary portfolio review and investment recommendation service for these portfolios.
We send reports to our clients 4 times a year with performance information and benchmark comparisons. In between clients will receive monthly statements and trade confirmations from the custodian (either Schwab or Fidelity) and will always have access to their accounts on line.
On an annual basis we do tax loss harvesting and review portfolio gains and losses. For many clients we provide information directly to their accountants to assist with tax preparation (i.e. copies of 1099’s, management fees, and estimates of income).
Finally, we circle back to see how we are doing relative to the plan and review these results with our clients. Meetings occur on the client’s desired schedule- quarterly, bi-annual or annually and we are always available by phone.
