Frequently Asked Questions
How are you paid?
We are fee-only. We do not accept commissions or compensation from any other source. For Investment Management services we get paid on a percentage of assets under management. For financial planning services we charge an hourly rate with an estimate for the defined scope of the plan.
Do you have an account minimum for Investment Management?
Yes, for Investment Management our minimum is $500,000. We do not have any minimum for planning.
Will you have custody of my money?
No, we never have custody of your money. We typically used Charles Schwab or Fidelity as a custodian for clients accounts.
Are you affiliated with Schwab or Fidelity?
No, we have an arm’s length relationship with these two custodians and generally recommend them for our clients. We do not work for them nor are we paid by them.
How many clients do you work with?
We have less than 200 client families that we work with presently for Investment Management. We have an excellent staff to customer ratio which we believe provides us with the optimal balance of client service and professional expertise.
Where are you located?
We have two offices. Our main office is at 95 College Street in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. We are 2 blocks east of Lake Champlain and 2 blocks west of Church Street. In 2017 we also opened a branch office in South Carolina. You can find us at 1 Corpus Christi Place, Suite 106 on Hilton Head Island, SC.
Are you fiduciaries?
Yes. As Registered Investment Advisory representatives we are fiduciaries for our clients. This means that we must always act in the best interests of those under our care.
Can I just get a financial plan?
Absolutely! Although many of our clients choose both planning and management, our services are decoupled and many people come to us for planning alone.
